[ He takes in the details of her surroundings, of a cafe he's seen once or twice in his many tours around the city. He's been here long enough to recognize the buildings, to know his way around the various street corners. As soon as he takes in the sight, he's already moving his feet, sneakers sliding fast with deep friction across asphalt as he races through street by street.
There's no stopping in his trail, not for the seconds it takes him to reach the central city area, screeching to a halt as he scans the crowd. And of course he spots her, practically drawn to her, connected by blood and soul, and he paces fast to stand before her.
His fingers press to her cheek, thumb stroking her face. ] See? I always find you.
[Those few seconds it takes him to reach her are nearly intolerable. Wanda's heart feels like it might beat out of her chest and she digs her nails into her palm in a desperate attempt to validate all of this. If all of this was some drug-induced dream and she wakes up back in the Raft, she won't be able to take the emotional crash.
Thankfully she never has long to wait where Pietro's concerned. She is just as magnetically drawn to him and her feet start running before she's even consciously directed them to move.]
Pietro...
[He's real, he's here, and she can feel the proof both physically and psychically. Wanda's eyes scan his face intently, taking in all the little things that might have changed since the last time she saw him, and without any further warning she throws her arms around him.]
I missed you. So much.
[Although Wanda's making a valiant effort not to cry, it's not working so well if the tremors in her shoulders are any indication.]
[ With the force of her arms, the tight hold engulfing him, Pietro acts instinctively in kind, pulling into her an affectionate embrace. His own arms curve around at the height of her back, gripping at her shoulders to pull her in close. He doesn't know her memories, not anymore, well aware that everyone changes here when they leave and come back, sometimes forgetting they were ever here at all. But he knows his sister just as well, can sense her pain and ache when it surfaces.
And he knows this, his own memories intact from what she'd told him before. Of what he was well aware of to begin with after coming here. He'd been dead, that was what she had known.
He feels it in the desperate hold and her quivering limbs.
Pressing a hard kiss into her hair, he speaks softly against it, strands against his mouth. ] I am a living dream, sister. I am never leaving you. I promised. It is you and me, always.
[Wanda clings to him desperately, like he'll float away if she lets go. It's terrible emotional whiplash - not 24 hours ago she was still curled up in her cell and now she has everything she could want.
There's only so long she can realistically hold back, so Wanda buries her face in Pietro's shoulder and sobs. She's cried for him more times than she can count since his death, but for once these are happy tears.]
Don't you dare.
[Finally something feels right again. It's like the dull ache she's been feeling since the fall of Novi Grad has suddenly disappeared.
[ And he holds her there for as long as he's able, probably willing to hold her for hours if at all possible. Even after being given a second chance to life, it hardly matters at all unless she's there. They'd been side by side through the worst, had only ever survived so many years on their own because they were together.
It isn't fair to find happiness and better ease in their lives without the other present.
Sighing in her hair, arms wrapped tightly around her shoulders, he sways her as he keeps her in close. He whispers her name gently, over and over, to comfort her sobs and remind her that he's there, that he hasn't left.
And he notices, how her hair flickers lighter, how she almost seems taller, her presence different. But it isn't so easy to sense in what way. ] Wanda. How long has it been?
[He'll be able to hold her as long as he wants - Wanda certainly won't be the first to let go. Not this time.]
A year and a month. Maybe more. [Pietro's attempts to comfort her are working; her voice is not quite so shaky.] Too long.
[And though Wanda answers immediately (of course she counts the months) it's the degree of uncertainty that might be the first clue something more is wrong. She wouldn't have lost track of that unless something bad had happened.
It's difficult to tell how many days have passed in a room with no windows when the lights never dim, more so when one is kept some degree of drugged into compliance most of the time. Ross wasn't taking any chances when he was well aware she could single-handedly free the others if given a chance.
But Wanda really doesn't want to think about that right now. Luckily the people who brought her here healed her neck, or Pietro would probably have an entirely different set of questions.]
