my feet are the fastest. please see me if you think you can keep up. i am very good at many things. if i do not know it, i will learn quick. i promise i will not bore you.
i hope she can help me i've been left to live in a very lonely place with no one :(
[ Count the seconds and he'll be at their old door, same as always in the same old underarmor, not having aged a single day since he's left. His knuckles rap at the door in quick thuds to alert his presence. ]
[ wanda's already up and off the couch, heading for the door when he knocks. her hair's sleeker, brushed and well-managed, and she's wearing a black mini dress and a battered army green jacket. her ballcap is temporarily discarded, as are her usual thigh high socks, because it's hot out today.
despite her playing it cool via text, she opens the door and throws her arms around his neck, because she is not actually that cool and she's been through a lot and she missed him terribly. ]
[ It's a dreadful thing, not being at her side. But with his speed, there's the advantage of not needing to waste much time. He'd been able to read her door within seconds, the memory of their old apartment bringing him there immediately. As she throws open the door, it's even quicker between seeing a brief glimpse of her presence and feeling her body knock hard into his chest.
His arms swerve around her, finger tight and clutching at the fabric of her dress at the small of her back. With his face pressed into her hair, he hardly notices much else at all, other than how he thinks it's been ages since they've been together.
When he finally draws back slightly, his nose still nuzzling against the strands of her hair, his eyes blink open and he really gets to see her. His twin sister, the girl he had spent more time with than without in all his years, he knows every detail to her. Her hair, her cheeks, her posture. Some of it seems changed.
A hand cups her cheek, thumb brushing over the bone. ] How much have I missed?
[ she loses herself in the familiarity of the moment, his arms around her and the familiar smell of his skin and hair. it's the only home that wanda's ever known. especially after having lost the avengers compound, brief though her tenure there was. she pushes those thoughts aside, content enough to see her brother again.
but then he looks at her, really looks at her, and he seems to know.
of course he would. it makes her feel silly for thinking she could keep it to herself. ]
About a year.
[ any thought of answering flippantly just seems cruel. ]
[ The comfort he'd felt simply by holding her isn't enough to sustain him now. A year. He'd been apart from Wanda for over a year.
He had been aware that he'd left from this place for some time. It'd been on the basis of a mishap, a misunderstanding on his part (it's not entirely important), but he'd felt himself to be lost, as if the part of him that was dead had surfaced to take over all of him. There was no sense of time in that dead space, or even if much time had passed by at all, but it didn't feel like a year of separation.
His eyes are wide as he gazes at her, furrowed brows noting the height of his confusion. ] A year. That's not possible.
[ But it is. Because Wanda wouldn't lie to him and he can tell that she isn't. He knows the difference between her lies and truth. This wasn't the former. ]
that's her first though. she doesn't want to upset him, or make him feel displaced and panicked by the knowledge of his own death and their consequent separation. she knows that he'll be back sometime, that her incentive here is for him. that hasn't changed, even with everything she knows now. she still just wants her brother.
the others can sort out the rest. ]
You're here.
[ she wasn't all right. and then she was. just like magic. she kisses his cheek. ]
[ He knows better. She could avoid telling him the truth but concealing it from one another never went about successfully. The ache amplifies in his chest when she kisses his cheek, and he closes his eyes with a sigh. ]
I won't leave again. [ He says it with a softness that balances in the realm of a plea to himself. He hasn't been able to control it when he leaves, and chances are he won't be able to help it if it happens again.
But he cups her face in his hands, thumbs brushing the corners of her lips as he kisses the space between her brows, lingering. ]
[ she knows that he would never leave her if it was within his power. she also knows now that it's something that isn't entirely under their control. she lets her hands drop to hold onto his shirt, tugging at his waist. ]
You're right. I must have worry lines.
[ she shakes her head, a little wistful. she doesn't have to fake sadness because she's been through a lot lately. but she's also meant what she said - that being with him salves all wounds. ]
You're lucky I kept this apartment instead of moving in with a rich suitor.
[ He thinks it's possible that she does have worry lines. It'd been a year, she says, but somehow she's seems much older than that, much older than him, as though a twelve minute difference had expanded ages. What all could she have seen in that year?
Despite his concerns, he manages a pout at her words. ]
Oh, did they come prancing around to sweep you off your feet? I think they're the lucky ones for me not having been around to teach them to know better.
[ Not that he doesn't trust Wanda. But you know!! ]
the truth is that the one person she thought maybe she was making a bit of a connection with betrayed her own principles in a pretty spectacular way, so romance is pretty much the last thing on her mind. ]
You're the one who's always getting into trouble, not me.
[ she pitches herself forward into his arms, hugging him briefly tight again, like she can't believe that he's really here. she missed him. no place is a home without him. ]
Then it's a good thing I'm with you again so you can keep me out of it.
[ Not that even she can fully stop him most of the time. But his smile is wide and sincere, the warmth of her embrace filling him with a swell of happiness. Their reunion from his previous time here had been all too brief, a tease of what life could be like if he had lived. He'd now accepted his third chance at being alive again, but it isn't until Wanda is tucked against his chest that he realizes the real precious value to that.
His arms wrap around her shoulders and he sighs into her hair, his nose pressed there as he hums happily. ]
I know. It's quite a nice face. I was cruel to deprive you of it. [ He can't help himself and he laughs. ] I've missed yours. It's so old now.
[ she sighs, like that's too big a job for even her to contemplate taking on. truthfully, it doesn't bother her, but she does worry about him getting into trouble with those stupid stunts he's always pulling to impress girls. it's not as though he needs to impress anyone.
to tell him this would be to encourage him, however, and she's not trying to do that anytime soon. ]
It's fuzzy. [ his face, obviously. and yet you don't see her pulling away. ] Don't you think I look distinguished?
[ At the comment towards his face, he draws himself back just enough to rub his cheek against hers, the small scruffy strands scratching in a teasing gesture she'd clearly asked for. The act simply draws out more laughter from him, as though driving her mad were the true source of his happiness after all. ]
Not at all. You look as though you might need a cane soon. [ Here come the parade of old jokes. She had it coming.
He pulls back further to pinch her cheeks with both sets of fingers. ] Can you walk alright? What do you say? Should I carry you now? Should I?
[ Her answer doesn't really matter. An arm slides around her waist, the other behind her knees and he's picking her up with a swiftness that comes too naturally for a speedster. ]
[ it's rough, but she holds close and lets him rub his cheek against hers anyway. she's missed this, even if he's the worst. ]
It's true, I might even be getting gray hairs soon...
[ hmm, who else does she know who has gray hair? it's so hard to remember, now that she's getting old.
she lets out a yelp, clinging to him happily when he hoists her up. she's never really forgotten what it was like for them to operate as a team the way they once did, but it's been a long time. ]
So chivalrous. Will you be helping me to cross the streets as well.
[ It's all so normal. The feeling of her weight being carried in his arms, her familiar echoing laughter, their playful banter. It was hard to tell they'd nearly caused the end of the world once, that he'd died as a result, that their paths had staggered for a year. ]
Wherever you need to go, I will be your loyal bus service. You'll never have to move again! How kind of me to pamper such a lazy lifestyle for you.
[ He does continue to carry her, remembering the floor plan of the apartment as he carries her to the bedroom. Once there, he gives little warning when he tosses her on the mattress. Not harshly, but he isn't gentle about it either. ] I think I might have cracked a hip. Did you pack on a little extra weight as you aged as well?
[ That snarky smirk remains plastered on his face as he tugs up at his shirt, removing it over his head before tossing it carelessly. ]
I'm going in for a bath. You joining? [ Because that's totally normal for siblings. ]
[ she gives a lazy, luxuriant sigh, as if becoming accustomed to this new way of living already. pietro treats her like a princess. he always has. so sometimes, if she takes on that remote and regal air, it's really all his fault.
she makes a show of startling when he drops her, but she isn't really surprised. gentleness doesn't always become them. ]
It must be all that American pizza.
[ she rolls onto her back, giving the ceiling a sad look, as if it's responsible for her sudden weight gain. ]
You should exercise more.
[ obviously, in order to be able to carry her. but she sits up and shimmies out of her dress, pulling it over her head and tossing it in the general direction of the laundry. (she cleans up once a week, it's fine.) ]
You're right. I should add in a few more kilometers to my jog. I'm obviously doing enough.
[ And despite all the running he already does, he actually does fully intend to increase his distances. Mostly because the idea is actually quite pleasing even if it's only meant as a joke.
He smirks when she tosses off her dress and he reaches down to grab her by the ankles, tugging her forward to seat her at the bed's edge.
Straightening, he holds out his hands to her. ] Do you need me to carry you again?
[ she thinks about that for a second, swinging her legs playfully. ultimately, she reaches to take his hands, letting him help her up before she slips away, fetching a hair tie to twist all her hair up into a messy bun at the top of her head. ]
Do you plan on doing more than running while you're here, this time?
[ she's teasing him as she goes into the bathroom to stopper up the tub and turn on the hot water. maybe it isn't exactly typical twin bonding fare to take a bath together, but they've always been close, and she's missed him. so this is what they're doing. ]
[ He says it with a bit of playful argument in his tone, as if finding the mockery in her accusation. He spins on his heel watching her walk away as the pout stays on his face even when she's turned, just to make sure it's there whenever she glances in his direction. ]
Running will not grant my request here. I'll be doing plenty of other things.
[ Fighting his chuckling amusement to keep his pout, he follows after her into the bathroom, kicking off his shoes and wiggling out of his pants. ]
[ he just happens to have a decent radar for her particular brand of sarcasm. not everyone picks up on it, owing perhaps to her accent or her dry nature. he's always understood her, though. her other half. it makes her feel whole again to see him - and yes, she is aware that he's still pouting back there.
she glances over her shoulder to glare at him, as though the information he's given her there was a little more than she was looking for, thanks. ]
I'm sure you'll be very popular again in no time.
[ she is, shall we say, not blind to the attention her brother received in sokovia. ]
Too bad you look like an old man now with that hair.
[ He can always pinpoint her humor even when she says it with a serious air. There's no offense taken with any of it but he makes a scene about it anyway, fully aware that she can sense his pouting lips. ]
Women find it quite sexy. They like to run their hands through it before tugging me down.
[ It's more information than anyone wants to hear, but Pietro's smug and cocky and he doesn't think twice as he slips his boxer briefs down and off of his legs.
Straightening with his hands in his hips, posed nude, he nods to her. ] Is the bath ready?
